Travel insurance – don’t assume credit card insurance will cover your holidays in New Zealand

March 12, 2018

I‘ve had a ‘not so good’ travel insurance experience so thought I’d share it with you so you don’t fall into the same trap.

I booked to do the Milford Track over a year ago, purposefully paying with my ASB Platinum credit card to ensure I had travel insurance.

As it’s transpired I have a knee injury and are unable to walk the Milford Track. While I thought I had travel insurance through my credit card, it only covers international travel.

While we’re lucky in New Zealand and don’t need medical insurance we still need travel insurance. Disrupted plans, injury, death and many other circumstances may mean you can’t travel. Activities such as the Milford Track (guided) cost several thousands of dollars so make sure you’re covered.

Here are companies that do provide travel insurance for New Zealand travel. Try 1 Cover or Cover More
