A day on Waiheke Island is hard to beat and while there are many great vineyards to eat at, there are also other great restaurants.The Oyster Inn, in hip –hopping Oneroa is within walking distance from the ferry and across the road from Oneroa beach.
So hungry were we, I forgot to photograph our food but I can describe what I ate!
There is an abundance of seafood on the menu prepared simply by chef Anthony McNamara who is passionate about sustainable fishing practices and line-caught fish. We started with a shared plate of tempura prawns with a miso butter on a bed of spinach. They were delicious but I had hoped the miso flavouring may have been stronger.
While I didn’t indulge in the oysters which looked good, I opted for the pan-fried hapuka. It was a thick slab of succulent white flesh, that literally melted in my mouth, with a Vietnamese slaw on the side. I would go back again, just for this.
When you book, request a table outside so you can see the goings on in the street below and enjoy the sea view.
There is more to The Oyster Inn than just the kitchen. It also has a bar and accommodation.
