Last weekend, I was lucky enough to be invited onto the Seabourn Odyssey for lunch and a tour of the ship.

Arriving at Queens Wharf, on Auckland’s waterfront it was chaos. Three ships had birthed that morning and tourists were everywhere. Cruising has become very popular but never before have I seen our wharfs used to capacity – it was great.

The Odyssey is a five star mid size ship catering for 450 guest, all in suites, with 360 staff to cater to their every whim.

Seabourn have six ships, Odyssey, Sojourn and Quest, all sister ships, as well as “three little sisters”, Pride, Spirit and Legend which are significantly smaller and carry only 280 guest.

Odyssey had come from Australia, up the coast of New Zealand and was bound for Bali. Seabourn travel the world.
