Have a little faith

October 20, 2014

For those of us with a little faith, weird and wonderful things can happen (called miracles). This is a lovely story I came across when visiting the Chapel of Loretto in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

chapel 3In late 1878 the Sisters of the Chapel made a novena (a prayer) to the Patron Saint of Carpenters, Saint Joseph, to have a staircase built so the students could access the choir loft. A carpenter appeared and started working on a spiral staircase as there was no room for a conventional one.

When the work was completed he vanished, without payment. The design has had engineers and architects perplexed for years as the staircase with two 360-degree turns has no centre support or nails.
