New Zealand’s Southern Ocean Zoo

October 5, 2015

I recently submitted this story about our southern ocean zoo to International Traveller Magazine. They loved it and published it. The Birds and the Seas

Here are some more photos from my touch with nature.

Fur seals
Fur seals bask in the sun.
Albatross
One of many albatrosses we saw, soaring above us at Taiaroa Head.
Fur seals 2
A young bull tries to join a harem of females but the mature bull won’t hear of it and pushes him back into the ocean.
Stewart Island Shag
This cliff face is home to hundreds of Stewart Island shags and their chimney pot nests. They face the prevailing wind for easy take-offs.
